National Reading Month! Books, Bookworms & Freebies

I've been reading TONS lately...I so love to read and always have. Some of what I'm reading are things I read years ago and wanted to re-read. Books that I like I'll read multiple times (or listen to multiple times on audio). Do you read books more than once?  Here are a few of the books I've re-read lately:

As you can see I've been on quite a Koontz kick lately...he's been one of my favorite authors since I was in middle school and some of his books I haven't read since about that time. I've been re-reading a lot of his books both new and old. Lightning was just re-released, too, so it's a great time to pick it up if you haven't read it. The Odd Thomas series really captivates me though and I just re-read it for the 4th time! Such amazing books full of so much insight on human nature...I've blogged about those books before so you can do a search (in the sidebar) if you want to read more about them.

It's been a while since I've blogged books! I've read several new(er) books recently as well and here are some of my favorites:

For those of you that don't know, I'm a HUGE Margaret Atwood fan. The Blind Assassin is one of my fave books ever and I love many of her others as well. Her newest release, The Year of the Flood, is also very good and tells a post-apocalypse story (it's kind of a sequel to "Oryx & Crake"). The ideas and commentary in the book are fascinating and will certainly leave you wondering about what lies in store for mankind with all of our continuous meddling with nature.

Revenge of the Paste Eaters: Memoirs of a Misfit by Cheryl Peck is hysterical...a wonderful light & entertaining read especially for any woman a bit outside of the "mold".

In case you haven't read Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol yet I would certainly recommend it. While I thought it was a bit too predictable and not quite up there with The Da Vinci Code I did really enjoy it. I'm really a sucker for novels with that historical reference written into the story...which could be why I've watched National Treasure about a billion times hahaha. Also I thoroughly enjoyed Stephen King's Under the Dome: A Novel and am already re-reading it to pick up more of the details. The story is well paced and I love the perspective of the "ant in the magnifying glass" King used to tell the story.

I have to tell you about Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) by Suzanne Collins though...I LOVED IT! So much that I read it twice right in a row. I don't want to say too much and spoil it for you but I cannot wait for the third book in the series to come out this fall as I'm desperate to find out if Katniss will end up with Peeta or Gale (Dear Katniss, please pick Peeta. Thanks! <3 Angel). In case you're not familiar with it this is actually a young adult book series and it's fabulous. I would compare it to the Giver or A Wrinkle in Time and highly recommend it for teens & adults alike!

Thank you so much. This looks like a great kit. I am a bookworm too and wish I had more time to read. I read like half an hour at least every night in bed and my husband sometimes really gets annoyed, as he can't sleep when the light is on. And sometimes I get cranky, when he starts complaining, because I can't put my book down when it really gets exciting or interesting! So you see, some problems here, but I don't care! I too am a biblophile ... you should consider picking up a James Mitchner book. He is not in vogue as much now as he used to be when all the mini series were being made of his novels...but for historical fiction he is probably the best and the fact that his books are really LONG is only frosting on the cake!! I want the stories I love to last as long as possible...I read too fast sometimes! tee hee ANYWAY, I do reread his books, some of them three or more times over the last 30 years.

This is such a great bonus. Thanks so much. My favorite reading tool right now is by Nook by Barnes and Noble. Similar to a Kindle but a bit less on price. Great to use and I'm very happy with it.

LOL I totally understand! It's just impossible to put a book down at key moments ;)
I mostly use audio books - they're so fabulous! I listen while I'm on the computer, in the car, etc. Also perfect for listening while you do mindless things like laundry. I get so much more reading done that way!

Oh, I'll definitely check him out! Sounds like exactly my cup of tea...great stories can never last long enough for me. I'm sure that's why I reread books so often. Just to get lost in it one more time...

I haven't heard of Nook...I'll check that out, too! I don't have a Kindle although I'd like one of course. Nook could be a good solution instead.

Thanks so much for your freebie! I'm with many above...rather bookwormish here too! Looks like my taste may run rather different though. I love reading nonfiction by my favorite Christian authors, mainly John MacArthur. But I also love historical fiction. I love Gilbert Morris books and also ones by Brock and Bodie Thoene. All historical fiction. Lately though I've been reading Gene Stratton Porter (a female!). She was a naturalist who lived in northern IN. Her house has been restored and is a museum now. Her books all have a lot of the "naturalist" flair. They are very simple books but with a theme that really keeps me interested in the story line and wanting to read more! I don't usually read books twice though simply because there are so many UNREAD books on my shelves! Thanks so much for your interesting blog!

Oh, another Margaret Atwood fan! Yay! I just adore her writing...it's so intelligent and socially insightful. She has such a keen perception of the world. Let me know what you think of "The Year of the Flood" when you get to it! Did you read "Oryx & Crake"? You wouldn't have to read it first...the stories are sequential they just kind of collide ;)

I've picked up a copy of "The Host" but haven't read it yet! I'll get to it soon I'm sure...I've been very curious to read another type of fiction from Meyer to see what it's like.

Oooo thanks for the recommendations! I've added several to my reading list. "The Twilight of Courage" looks great in particular. Yeah, there are indeed tons of unreads on my list, too. Because I mostly listen to audio books I probably get more rereading done than most...I can reread while I work on the computer. For books I haven't read though I have to focus on the story more so I can't always listen to those while I work (depending on what I'm doing of course).

I think living in a library would be GRAND LOL! Reminds me of one of my all time fave books as a child: FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER where the kids run off to live in the Met Museum of Art. I always thought that would be like heaven heehee.
